Yachimun Yonashiro Vase
An emerging face in the Okinawa pottery scene, Toru Yonashiro is based in Ōgimi, in the hilly north of the island.
Trained for ten years under separate masters, Yonashiro is deeply versed in the Yachimun pottery tradition, and has built a reputation for the bold technical quality of the work that he fires in his traditional kiln.
His glazes yield rich colour combinations, with blues spiralling into greens, and distinctive orange brown dots.
Yonashiro’s personal exploration of Okinawan forms such as makai (bowls), karakara (sake decanters) shows both capability and flair
