Kaneko Kohyo Ikkon-hai mini set
Based in the Mino-yaki pottery region of central Japan, in Gifu, Kaneko Kohyo is a family producer known for their mastery of the Mino-style. Their recent innovation is in making ‘varietal’ sake cups, that adjust the flavour with their shape.
The sake can be directed straight to the drinker’s taste buds, or invited to expand gently in the mouth. Loved equally by high-end Paris chefs, and people around Japan for their homeware, Kaneko Kohyo are constantly innovating as they approach their 100th year.
In this set the cups come in four shapes, each delivering a different mouth feel for the sake - and have grip section at the base that becomes increasingly useful the more you drink.
The sprout shaped cup releases the sake's scent and spreads its taste from tip of the tongue.
The wanguri cup allows a mellow taste that expands from the centre of the tongue.
The trumpet design fills the mouth with the drink, making for a bold taste experience.
The straight sided cup delivers the sake deep into the mouth, making it simple and delicious.
